How will I be assessed? In Design and Technology you are working towards achieving a target National Curriculum level by the end of your school year. In Food you will be assessed on your making skills. This mark will count towards your final Design and Technology level. With the help of your teacher and your friends you will assess yourself on the quality of the dish you prepare, the effort you put into your work and your attitude. It will be recorded on your end of unit report |

In Year 7 you will learn about food hygiene and safety. You will become familiar with the working procedures of the Food room and the equipment used. You will prepare dishes such as cheese, onion and potato bake, vegetable curry and spicy beans. By the time you have completed Food in Year 7 you should be able to prepare and cook yourself a simple three course meal! |
In Year 8 you will take a culinary trip around the world. You will learn about the culture of many countries including America, China and Italy. In particular you will learn about the eating habits, the festivals and the traditional foods of each country. You will prepare dishes such as stir fry and chocolate chip muffins. You will have the opportunity to practice your pancake flipping and make crępes the French would be proud of |

What will I learn in Year 9? |

By Year 9 you will have developed your skills sufficiently enough to prepare some exciting and challenging dishes. The theme is ‘healthy living’ and you will learn more about the importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Dishes you will make include Cheesy Pasta, Goulash and Chicken Tikka Masala |
