How can I help my child with their English?
The English department are keen for you to be involved in your child’s learning. You can do this by:
- Talking to your child regularly about what they are doing in English.
- Asking your child about the novel/play/poets they are studying at the moment
- What type of writing are they practising?
- Asking to see their book on a regular basis.
- Enquiring about and checking their homework.
Developing English Skills outside of school:
- Encourage your child to read widely for pleasure and to improve their vocabulary. Visit your local library- this is free! There must be something your child is interested in! The library is also an excellent place to carry out research for a variety of topics.
- Buy a daily newspaper and discuss some of the current issues with your child.
- There are lots of useful sites for parents to log on to: i.e. www.parents.org.uk
- KS3 students might find the following useful: KS3 BBC Bitesize
- KS4 students might find useful information at UCAS.com
If you think your child is struggling to keep up do not hesitate to contact us. The English department is always happy to discuss any problems and ways that we can help.
