Hi,

It’s Emma and Kate here! We are year 11 Media Studies students and are here to talk to you about Media Studies! Well, what can we say? Media Studies is the ‘cutting edge’ subject. It’s the fashionable choice! It has something for absolutely everybody as we are all constantly involved in the media.

Media Studies is a real eye opener. It shows you things which you see on a regular basis in a different way. For instance, television adverts, magazines, newspapers, science fiction films and news programmes. I bet you’re thinking that some of the things we have just mentioned are boring and let us tell you, we used to think exactly the same way. However, since taking and studying them we have found them to be really interesting and something which we will either regularly watch, or, read.

Media Studies also allows you not to be taken as a fool by the media. It makes you look at things, such as adverts, twice as you will look at it as an innocent viewer but then again as a GCSE Media Studies student. You will be able to see how the media fools people into thinking that their product is fantastic and won’t be fooled yourself! It makes you feel superior to adults who will still be fooled by it!

Media Studies gives you once in a lifetime opportunities. Last year, we as Media Studies students got the chance to be able to go and produce our own news programme. We used a real studio with real cameras. We got to experience both being in front of the camera and behind the camera. We used an autocue and got to feel as if we were real news presenters. It was a really great day and everyone that went enjoyed themselves fully. The video we produced also looked professional and like it was a real news programme. We are sure that nobody who went to the studio will ever forget their experiences. It might also help them later on in life if they wish to pursue a career in the media.

We have been told by many different people that they wish that they had taken GCSE Media Studies after finding out everything which we have done. Over the past two years we have done things like producing our own newspaper front cover, producing film posters, magazines, storyboards for music videos, making up our own band, or, artist and promoting them the same way a famous band would be promoted. We have also learnt a range of media language to use when we have analysed different media products.
Finally, we thoroughly believe that whoever you are, you will enjoy GCSE Media Studies. We have and we are going on to further our media knowledge by taking it in college.

If we were to recommend any subject to you Media Studies will be the subject. If you want a change, enjoyment, knowledge and once in the lifetime opportunities then Media Studies will be the subject for you!
