Welcome to ICT at HTS
Here at Hyde Technology School ICT plays a very important role in all
areas of school life. With over 400 networked PC’s pupils use ICT in all
areas of study and in much of our extra curricular activity.
We have five full time, ICT teachers and unlike many schools, all have degrees in ICT and have qualified as teachers with ICT as their main subject. With the flair and “out of the box” thinking our staff demonstrate, our pupils enjoy exciting lessons and their fantastic achievements at KS3 and KS4 reflect our commitment.
At Hyde our pupils consistently achieve higher than the national average at KS4 (89% of ALL our year 11’s achieved 4 grade C’s and above in ICT in 2004) and KS3 (80% achieved level 5 or above at the end of KS3 In 2004), another reflection of the hard work our staff demonstrate. After our last inspection, Ofsted described ICT at Hyde as “…a substantial strength of the school.”
In year 7 pupils enjoy challenging and exciting lessons created by Miss McLaughlin which are assessed at the end of each topic to provide accurate level assessment and clear targets for individual pupils. In year 8 pupils enjoy dynamic and imaginative lessons and activities created by Mr Sibson. These too are assessed at the end of each topic to provide accurate levels and assessment of each pupil and to provide individual targets. In year 9 pupils begin their GNVQ Intermediate (equivalent to four GCSE’s), completing the first of 6 units in year 9.
At KS4 pupils continue their GNVQ coursework and complete the remaining 5 units through year 10 and 11. With a dedicated ICT GNVQ website (www.ictgnvq.org.uk) created by our very own Director of ICT, Keith Parry, pupils have direct access to all units of study and materials, allowing them to take responsibility for their own learning at school or at home. Additional GNVQ materials created by Mr Frain ensure our pupils have excellent resources in their KS4 studies.
We enjoy 5 dedicated ICT rooms with over 130 PCs in the department which means in ICT lessons pupils have the privilege of never having to share a PC. With digital projectors in 4 rooms and an interactive white board in the fifth, coupled with the most up to date Operating System, software and network management we feel we are at the leading edge of ICT in education.
With the ever increasing advance of ICT and its importance in all our lives, we believe our pupils are best equipped for their future and to become those who shape the future of ICT.
