Citizenship is a relatively new foundation subject that covers a wide range of issues and links to many other subjects. The purpose of Citizenship is to give students the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need now and for the future. We want our students to take an active role in their communities and society, Citizenship gives them the ability to do this. We aim to promote both moral and social responsibility. At HTS Citizenship is delivered in a number of ways. It is given specific curriculum time, taught through a range of subject areas and via whole school activities.
Our experienced teaching staff deliver exciting and engaging lessons that our students really benefit from. We promote active learning with students involved in discussion, role play and group work. We regularly invite outside agencies in to deliver talks and activities in order to enrich the Citizenship experience.
At HTS we encourage students to have a say in issues that affect them. We have a successful School Council, students are involved in fund raising activities and our new House System is already fostering a healthy team spirit that promotes a sense of community.
The Citizenship department has one full time and two part time members of staff, a wide range of facilities including access to a computer suite and a range of teaching materials and videos.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr Penney or Ms Bentley at the school.
